Senate Border Bill Fails Again

The majority leader’s stand-alone legislation lost support.

A proposed border bill failed in the Senate once again, this time with less support than the first round of votes.

The bipartisan border legislation was initially part of a package with foreign aid for Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan. After months of negotiations, the border provisions were removed from the bill last month so that the aid measures would pass in the House of Representatives.

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer redrafted the border legislation with bipartisan negotiators and had hoped the standalone bill would fare better. However, the border measures received less support from both parties, with several key senators flipping from yes to no during the vote.

“The solution is a president who’s willing to exercise the authority, to use the tools he already has,” Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell said. He added that if his colleagues “wanted to start fixing the crisis tomorrow, they would be urging the president to do exactly that.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For discernment for Senate and House leadership as they consider the border crisis.
  • For the president and DHS secretary to enforce the border security laws and regulations already passed by Congress.
